Rail and Transport
Bridges, viaducts, track, highways, station development
Geo-Environmental's experienced team have successfully implemented a range of projects for this sector which include our featured case-studies at Borough Viaduct for Network Rail and Caterham for Marshall Surfacing. Geotechnical and Environmental expertise provided by specialist engineers can help deliver significant savings in terms of both time and costs and when working with both Skanska and Network Rail, Geo-Environmental’s flexible approach, allowed us to advise the client on the most suitable techniques and implement these seamlessly into the scope of works, thus avoiding any undue delays to the project.
Geo-Environmental are aware of the new targets to significantly reduce accidents in the rail industry before the end of 2014. In order to achieve this suppliers need to be reliable and safety aware. Geo-Environmental are proud of their excellent health and safety record with no incidents occurring on our Borough Viaduct project. The care that we take of our staff, sub-contractors and other partners is one of our key differentiators.
Housing Development
New developments, green and brownfield locations
The general market outlook for Housing Development is challenging, but as there is still undersupply of new homes against Government projections of household formation, the sector as a whole is still showing growth.
With the uncertainties with the overall economy the key market risks are:
- Continuing restrictions on credit availability
- Changing economic environment leading to increasing interest rates or unemployment
- First time buyers becoming priced out of the market
It is therefore important that geotechnical and geo-environmental experts look to work with their clients to find the most practical and value for money solutions and ensure that these solutions are right first-time, reducing delays and keeping costs down. Geo-Environmental’s experienced team have shown that they can do just that, providing a range of Geotechnical and Environmental services on a broad range of housing developments from single structure developments to new strategic land developments incorporating hundreds of new houses, major new infrastructure, commercial/retail, education and healthcare facilities often with complex ground conditions.
Commercial Development
Gas, water, electric transmission systems, renewable technologies
Industry analysts believe that the market bottomed for commercial development in the UK in 2009 and is now recovering. Whilst 2010/11 could be a challenging year because of previous under development, the sector itself has a strong medium term outlook.
However, in this environment it is important that any suppliers deliver value for money, produce sustainable solutions and are flexible in their attitude to problem solving. Geo-Environmental have provided a range of Geotechnical and Environmental services and shown that they can consistently deliver innovative value for money solutions on a variety of commercial developments including breweries and hotels many of which have remained fully operational during the site investigation process.
Utilities
Gas, water, electric transmission systems, renewable technologies
The key challenges facing utilities are energy security and climate change. The will be a vigorous campaign of new nuclear builds and large scale renewable power generation will be prosecuted over the next five years, combined with a drive to champion the rights of individuals to generate their own electricity – micro-generation. In addition, to both boost the sustainability of our water, electric and gas infrastructure and meet rising demand, extensive upgrades will be required countrywide.
In order to meet these challenges the industry will require flexible contractors and Geo-Environmentals experienced and reliable team have shown that they are capable of mobilising quickly and meeting these needs without compromising health and safety and quality, whilst providing a range of Geotechnical and Environmental services.
Public Sector
Local councils, schools, NHS Trusts, Government agencies
The challenges facing the Public Sector in the short and medium term have been well documented. The need to make spending cuts have increased the emphasis on achieving value for money, but without impacting either health and safety or quality. Furthermore, the public sector will also be judged on the sustainability of any of its projects and that any suppliers that it uses observe legislation around equal opportunities.
Geo-environmental have well developed policies and procedures to ensure that we are compliant with all public sector mandatory requirements that underpin the range of Geotechnical and Environmental services that we provide. In addition Geo-Environmental’s experienced team have the skills to assess any given project and identify innovative solutions that ensure that costs are reduced, an example of our approach being the work that we completed for Brighton and Hove Council.
