Located upon a major aquifer and in close proximity to drinking water supply wells, this site posed a significant environmental threat. Attempts to remediate the groundwater were made by the former owners while the station was active, but the contamination had quickly returned. Geo-Environmental were appointed by a developer wishing to construct a block of flats on the site, and Geo-Environmental provided a robust risk-based remediation strategy. After removal of eight underground tanks and surrounding contaminated soils, a pump-and-treat system was used to remove free product and dissolved hydrocarbons to concentrations below the site-specific water standards. Through Geo-Environmental’s comprehensive consultancy service, the developer fully discharged their liabilities and brought the development to fruition ahead of schedule.
