The Project

Geo-Environmental has undertaken an intrusive investigation for the proposed re-development of the site from an existing leisure centre with sports pitches for a new swimming pool and leisure centre complex, all-weather pitches, hotel and restaurant/retail development. The site remained operational and was open to the public throughout the course of the ground investigation.

In these circumstances, health and safety considerations are always complicated by the fact that members of the public can’t be briefed and any health and safety plan needs to mitigate for this.

The site had known issues with buried services that would provide a hazard to any intrusive investigation and a strategy of identifying and clearing these was essential.

Expertise

The site, being an existing construction and operational throughout, had live services running across the site. This project required a sound understanding of potential in-ground hazards, with regard to both the investigation and proposed development, coupled with effective technical and non-technical communication with the Client and other parties in the design team.

The health and safety of the public, other users of the site and our staff and sub-contractors was of paramount importance, as was minimising disruption to users of the site. Geo-Environmental was able to provide a robust Health and Safety Plan, relevant site specific Risk Assessments and Method Statements for all works carried out.

Benefits

Experience and quality of service are highly important on all sites, but particularly where the general public have access to the site. We have a highly experienced team used to working on a wide range of sites and with a wide range of industry sectors. We were able to find ways of providing a cost effective service without compromising the quality of our end product.

Utilising strict site controls and following robust, yet pragmatic health and safety protocols, the works were carried out in such a manner as to limit disruption and associated risks to the site, users of the site, site workers, the general public and the site infrastructure. The reports for the site were delivered on time and within budget
