The Project
Geo-Environmental undertook an investigation on behalf of Berkeley Homes for a proposed major new residential development in Horsham, which included housing, public open space, balancing ponds, on site highways and bridges, off-site highway improvements to existing infrastructure, a new grade separated junction on a dual carriageway and a new footbridge crossing an existing dual carriageway.
The project had a number of challenges including the scale and range of assessments required, presence of multiple buried trunk services crossing the site, access constraints, land under control of several parties and the need to minimise any disruptions to the nearby dual carriageway.
Expertise
Geo-Environmental was able to provide a broad range of technical knowledge combined with communication with the Client and other members of the design team to facilitate the timely delivery of information to support the design and development of the scheme.
In addition to routine investigation and assessment to support geotechnical and contamination assessments, Geo-Environmental provided specialist services in relation to the investigation and assessment of soft ground associated with buried river channels and the implications for bridge and embankment design; slope stability; the specification and construction supervision of conventional and geogrid reinforced earthwork structures; the assessment and design of piles in rock; and foundation construction inspection.
Benefits
Geo-Environmental not only understands the role it plays on complex projects, but is also able to work closely with other technical disciplines to support their role and thus help Client’s to achieve their objectives. Through detailed planning of the investigation and the development of bespoke Health and Safety Plans, Geo-Environmental’s approach was to minimise disruption both on-site and to the public who were using the local infrastructure and services in the area.
It is always Geo-Environmental’s aim to help our clients minimise financial exposure and environmental incidents by thoroughly identifying risk and creating a plan to design these out, or suggest effective mitigation strategies. Geo-Environmental were able to provide geotechnical and environmental services which suited the specific site constraints and achieve these goals.
